Itinerary and transport

If you are flying to Paris it is highly recommended to arrive with a morning flight as the travel time to Grez-sur-Loing may take between two and three hours by train and bus. If traveling by car make sure that you have some extra time and don't be a time optimist when estimating your arrival in Grez-sur-Loing. Especially around Paris, driving time can vary greatly depending on the time of the day, traffic jam, etc.

Grez-sur-Loing is located near Fontainebleau, 70 km southeast of Paris. It is best to come here on weekdays when the bus traffic from the train station in Melun to Grez has greater frequency.

Taxis

The price of taxis between the airport and Grez is depending if you are arriving on night time and on the traffic jams. Max price is 2,20 € per kilometre during night time (from 7pm to 8 in the morning) and holidays and Sunday. Normal price is 1,70 € per kilometer.

So it's between 170 € and 230 € for Charles de Gaulles airport (exactly 100 km from Grez), not counting the traffic jam case, which makes it more expensive.

Train/bus

When arriving at the Charles de Gaulle Airport - take the train to the Gare de Lyon train station. First you have to take RER B to Chatelet Les Halles and there switch to RER A to Gare de Lyon - just cross over to the other side of the platform.

At Paris Gare de Lyon (Hall 1/top ground railways – on upper floor), take any train going to Melun. There is one train leaving every 10 minutes in peak hours, otherwise every 20 minutes.

You can always buy individual tickets in the bus, it costs 2 € per person and per trip, and you have to pay in cash.

Get off the train at the station Gare de Melun (your tickets and Navigo cards - see below - will be inspected here). Exit the station building at the main entrance. Take left on Avenue Thiers. After approx 300 meters take left and enter the stairs to the passageway under the railways and you are now on the street Place de l'Ermitage. The bus station is nearby. The walk takes about 5 minutes. Look for the bus stop indicating « BUS 34 / Seine & Marne Express ».

There is only one bus to Grez-sur-Loing. It's number is 34. This bus goes from Melun to Château-Landon and vice versa, we are in the middle.

If you come from Melun or Fontainebleau, you will stop in Grez at the bus stop named "Les Fours".

From there, you go down under the small bridge, cross the big avenue from where the bus did arrive, named "Nationale 7". Walk and take the first on your right, rue des Murgers. Go down this street, at the small round about, walk a little bit more and take rue Wilson on your left. Then you will pass the town hall and then the church on your right side, keep on, Hôtel Chevillon's main door is at number 114 rue Wilson.

When going back, you need to walk to another bus stop, named "Les 4 routes", where the bus goes in direction of Fontainebleau and Melun. You go up the street right in front of Hôtel Chevillon (the one where the bakery is), named Place de la République. Turn left and then right, pass the pharmacy and the grocery store, rue du Vieux Pont. This street will take you really close to the bus stop : after the grocery store, again, turn left and then right. Go straight ahead up to the big avenue "Nationale 7", you will find the bus stop on the right side of the avenue when you arrive up there.

Please be aware that the walk from Hotel Chevillon to the bus stop "Les 4 Routes" is approximately 15 minutes.
